Invitations open for tournament

INVITATIONS are now open for the Aroma Coast Wagula Park Nines rugby league tournament in Abau, Central. Tournament director Vagini Vagini said the tournament was geared towards women’s participation in rugby league along the Aroma Coast with the tournament scheduled for June 22-25.  He said the tournament offered a chance for women and girls to have a feel of the game in a condensed format with cash prizes to be awarded in the Cup, Plate and Bowl finals. “This is for the grassroots females to participate and have the feel of the game,” Vagini said. “Since rugby league’s introduction on the Aroma Coast, only the men have been involved in the sport while women play netball. “The event is to encourage equal participation.” He said the tournament was aimed at breaking down barriers between men and women through rugby league. He said a huge turnout was expected at the tournament.
