IRON Chief Boxing Club says it is ready to produce more top fighters to help raise the standard of the sport in the country.
Club head trainer and former professional boxer Kevin “Iron” Baki told The National yesterday that the club was putting forward six fighters for Sunday’s fight night hosted by Oceania Fight Promotions.
The fighters are Roy Baki, Spencer Francis, Tony Kuasu, Tony Waisa, Innocent Gimots and Andrew Aisanga.
“All the fighters have good experience,” Baki said.
“They’re hard workers who’ve been putting a lot of effort into their boxing careers.
“Aisanga was one of our notable fighters to come up since he was one the first to be given an international bout which he won earlier this year.
“Roy Baki has an impressive record from his time as an amateur and we’re expecting big things from him in the future.
“We’re all prepared and looking forward to the fights on Sunday.
“It’s crucial to host regular fights.
“Most of the fighters we work with are unemployed youths.
“So more opportunities to showcase their talents will help their careers and ranking.”
Meanwhile, Baki called on the business community and interested sponsors to assist with their preparations.
“The majority of the boxers competing in the fight night are from our club,” he said.
“With the help of our families and club management, we prepare the boys not only for the fight but with uniforms.
“We do small work on the side like getting the guys T-shirts and other gear that they might need when they’re training.”
