A DIGICEL Cup franchise yesterday presented an early Christmas gift of tyre covers and caps to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary’s Fox units from its merchandise shop.
Hela Wigmen, under its subsidiary Wigmen Merchandise Shop, presented the items worth about K3,000.
“The value of these items might not be big, but we appreciate the work of the police for keeping the Port Moresby community safe,” Wigmen chief executive Patrick Wundai said.
“It’s a token of appreciation and also a reminder that we are not forgetting policemen and women who keep the community safe.
“The police have a lot work to do during their Christmas operations, so the club is happy to support the Fox units in this little way.
“It’s our first time to engage in something like this with the police, but it’s the start of a long-term relationship.”
Receiving the items on behalf of the police was Frank Sau, an administration officer for National Capital District and Central divisional commander Anthony Wagambie Jr.
“For a business entity and a rugby league club to show this gesture to us, it’s something we appreciate and acknowledge,” Wagambie said.
“We receive criticism every day and to be appreciated like this means a lot to us.
“We try every day to attend to incidents in the city despite criticism of our actions, but we’ll still continue to serve the public.”
