WEWAK MP Kevin Isifu, Wewak administration officials and acting police commander Sr Insp James Baugen yesterday went to Nagihe village to tell locals to remove a roadblock they had set up.
Isifu led the delegation to tell the people to allow a free flow of traffic between Aitape in Sandaun and Wewak in East Sepik.
Their presence was also to ease the tension there after a fight between the people of Smain and Makopin villages.
The fight started in 2017 after students from Smain blamed each other for the burning down of a classroom that housed a science lab at Brandi Secondary School.
According to Wewak police station commander Insp John Hasimani, who spoke on behalf of provincial police commander Supt Albert Beli, a student became a police informant which angered the others chased his family out.
“The family went and resided at Nagihe village in Makopin with relatives,” he said.
