PEOPLE from the Kowai and Lokep areas on Siassi Island are happy with Mao Zeming’s re-election.
They are hoping he will complete the projects he left unfinished during his past term as their MP.
Lawyer, Kenneth Aisi from Oropot village said they have missed out on basic services over the past six years since Zeming was dismissed from holding office by a leadership tribunal.
“Projects such as the Zangin Aubon jetty and Zagin Aubon access road, which he initiated, have not been completed and we hope that his re-election will see the completion of these projects,” Aisi said.
He said the Aupwel to Bunsil road had suffered a similar fate and the incomplete road has caused much hardship in the area.
People are calling on the Tewae-Siassi MP to consider re-developing the Gom airstrip so they don’t have to rely on sea travel to and from Lae which is sometimes dangerous.
“When the Kowai people get sick they can’t get to the Angau Memorial Hospital quickly and those of us working in towns also cannot get quickly to our villages to visit and assist the people,” Aisi said.
He said the Kowai people were also delighted that Zeming has been given a ministry in the caretaker government.
“This goes to show that he is a senior parliamentarian and we want to congratulate him,” Aisi said.
