Islanders want leaders who can serve them

A GROUP of islanders in New Ireland want leaders who can provide them services.
The Limanak islanders in the Tigak group of islands in Kavieng want a change in their MP in the 2022 general election.
Their current MP is Ian Ling-Stuckey.
They raised their concern last Friday during a ward grant ceremony attended by Governor Sir Julius Chan, first secretary Robin Brown and provincial executive council members Misbil Nelson and Edwin Maigen.
Ward One councillor Graham Chan said they had been deprived of services for too long.
Chan said they wanted to be active participants in development and to be involved in the tourism industry.
Brown said they had been writing to the provincial government for assistance.
Every ward is given K30,000 a year and an extra K10,000 for remote wards.
They were given fishing nets, sewing machines and solar-powered lights last Friday.
Sir Julius said his government was people-centered.
