PM seat not a birthright

THE prime minister’s seat is not anyone’s birthright, says Prime Minister James Marape.
He said on his Facebook page yesterday that he did not seek advice from his predecessor Peter O’Neill when he resigned from Government on April 10, 2019.
“I did not force him to resign (later) and I don’t need advice from him (on) political numbers to keep my Government,” Marape said.
“And he (O’Neill) must be reminded that the prime minister’s seat is not a birth right for Peter O’Neill or James Marape.”
The war of words between the two former political colleagues began over speculation that a motion of no confidence would be moved by Opposition MPs in Parliament to oust Marape from power. Marape said O’Neill had legally been the prime minister from 2012 to 2019 by the “grace of God and grace of elected leaders”.
“And I am today PM by that same grace of God and grace of leaders.
“When that favour shifts, I will accept it and not fight (back) like him.”
Marape said all MPs, irrespective of the length of tenure in office, could “qualify to be PM”.
“And if the majority MPs (oust) me (for a) better leader, I will accept it as long as the new leader puts fighting for people’s resources at the forefront of his work,” he said.
“This country is bigger than PO (Peter O’Neill) or JM (James Marape).
“So let’s build the next generation of leaders who will carry the fight for a better PNG instead of living in a self-gratifying view that only they have all answers to this (country’s problems).”

    • If tax is killing you, step down from your job and work on the land so you pay no tax.

      Simple.

  • PMJM is one of the best Prime Minister – due the style of leadership.
    Take a moment to reflect back on a statement here;
““And if the majority MPs (oust) me (for a) better leader, I will accept it as long as the new leader puts fighting for people’s resources at the forefront of his work,,,”” – PMJM.
“People’s resource.” Isn’t this enough? My suggestion – we hold this leader (PMJM), as long as he is fighting for our rights to our resources, and not give in to sweet talks and treats from outside. Stronim na stap. Liklik taim tasol.!

  • Well said by the prime minister….you are chosen to lead the country so keep doing the right thing….The Lord Almighty said if you lead in a positive and clear Godly vision..nothing Will be against your path….So PMJM keep that positively and move forward…because we all your country men and women are with you.
As long as your laws amendments and decision making benefits each and every citizens, the nature is always gonna be on your side.

  • We should give the PM job to Sir Julius Chan who is more mature, experienced and wise. He was PM when most of us were in school. The ‘free education’ thing was initially cooked up by him on radio talk back show back then. He is no saint but I think when power hungry stunts grumble like vicious dogs we have to look elsewhere for solutions.

    • Correct, However think back to how many lives of brothers and sister lost in Bougainville and brining in the Mercenaries force to wipe out our own bloods????????????????????? He is out dated, rejected for PM post through such decisions he made.

  • For the first time in PNG, we have a Prime Minister who has the people’s interest first and foremost. We need to allow him to develop our beloved country to the next level. He is like no other, let him prove his worth come 2022 and if we are not happy with him then by all means replace him with a better leader of your choice.

  • Blah blah blah!
Come on Marape you better than this, stop compare yourself with O’Neill. Seems like you are trying too hard.
O’Neill stood down and let you become the PM, the title that you have been craving for. If there was a Judas in Parliament, that would be you.

  • JM is the man of this season to lead PNG, Let him continue and finish what he has started. Oneli had his turn and financially not a wise leader in that areas in Oneil, Oneill time is up.. he needs to move on and let Marape and new leaders take PNG from there.

  • VONC is happening.
    It is allowed by law.
Politicians and ordinary people like us do not have the same reasoning.
We may benefit or not from a VONC.
Outcome of VONC is immaterial. Politicians will benefit 100% from a VONC. It gives the politicians opportunity to make some thousands to keep their children educated or buy a house in Australia.

  • Papua New Guinea we think that we are Educate but we are not educate enough to see and understand what has happen in our country and continues supporting some one that involve in criminality in our country and society. The good facebookers and WhatsApp have make so many command on O’Neil leadership.
Can we give enough time to JMPM and see some of his policies to implement, on Take back png, png going for Economy Independent,
And allow him to investigate on some very serious issues that affecting our country.
Section 145 that allow the VONC can held but who would be the Prime Minister.
Is that a man who run our country Economy into Economic crisis which now our country is sitting on the timing bomb to repay the loan,by this privious Government under the leadership of Peter O’Neil Prime Minister, James Marape is working tearouslyto repay. O’Neil should respect Marape and keep shut, O’Neil don’t you know that we damage and kill PDM in the country in 2002, on the death of our 4UPNG Student were shoot death under the leadership of Sir Mekere Morata PM in 2001 Student Unrest,
O’Neil you should know that under your leadership you have shoot 49 UPNG Student in 2015?
The Lea Uniteach Student was shoot death under your leadership?
PNC will go tomorrow: no PNC will acgisting after 2022.

  • Everyone remember that what ever you say in you coments about this two Leaders you must always remember that don’t JUDGE them cause you a not the upright person to judge let the Lord God judge them

  • PMJM, so far so good, its not coincident that you became the prime minister in this time when the country needs it badly and guess what, God’s appointment and that’s final whatever men may say….

  • JM’s decision is pain to the people of PNG, it is symptom for planting and birth of joy is in progress. Does not nature teaches use that, wet season follows dry season or vise vesa? They that planted in tears shall rip in joy psalm 126:5. Honorable JM, I for one salute you. You are plainly standing on the truth. Tru pela pikinini belong PNG. Selfcentred Papua new Guinean, come out of yourself.
