Isou hoping for better finish this season

AFTER finishing with the wooden spoon last season, the Gulf Isou are hoping for a better finish in this year’s Digicel Cup season which kicks off next month.
Isou team manager Raymond Aru said the team had the ability to compete and do better but it was matter of being mentally stronger and winning matches from winnable positions.
“We’ve got the boys that can play the game but we’re just not showing that on the field,” he said.
“We are here physically but mentally, we’re not turning up to play rugby league. We have the boys and the experience needed, but at this level of the game in the Digicel Cup, you can’t have that (poor) attitude.
“We need to have an attitude that’s prepared and can cope with the changes in the game.
“In rugby league, if you don’t get to complete your sets, you’re going to be tackling your opponents for a good part of the game and that’s something that we know we have to work on,” he said.
Aru said the experience in the squad together with mental preparedness was vital in the Isou’s campaign. “Last year’s results really showed where we are in terms of our strength as a team and where we need to improve,” he said.
“Being in the Digicel Cup comes back to our performance and that’s been lacking.
“Our position in the competition has been questioned but we have been working to get things right.
“We’ve gone out and looked at prospects for club and we’ve done some recruiting on upcoming talents along with experienced players who can steer the team forward.”
