GULF Isou want to use this season to prove their worth in the Digicel Cup, says team manager Raymond Aru.
He told The National that their under-performance in the 2020 season had raised a lot questions about whether they were fit to continue at the national level, however, he said the club was keen on fielding a competitive side this year.
“Our performance last season really showed where we were as a team against the rest of the teams in the competition,” Aru said.
“In the offseason, we discussed our stance in the competition and we really want to get this through to our players about showing our worth and why we still deserve to be playing at this level of the game.
“We have gone out and looked at prospects for the club but what we’re doing now is trying to get that balance in youth and experience to build our campaign. In rugby league, if you don’t complete your sets, you give space for your opposition to come in and hurt you on the scoreboard and that’s what most of last season was like for us.”
He said Isou were in talks to enlist the services of former SP Hunter David Loko, who played for the Central Dabaris last year with the team focused on building confidence around its rookies for the new season.
Aru said the squad were still in isolation with players doing their own training from home while the country observed a four-week isolation period.
