FORMER Rabaul Gurias utility Chris Jerry has been named in Gulf Isou’s train-on squad for the upcoming Digicel Cup season.
Jerry made his return late last year, playing two last games for the Petroleum Resources Kutubu-sponsored side after being called up by Isou’s management.
Despite retiring from rugby league in 2018, his inclusion adds much-needed experience to Isou as they look to make the finals of the country’s premier rugby league competition.
After missing three consecutive seasons, the East New Briton is excited to be back playing the game that he loves.
“Playing rugby league is my passion,” Jerry said.
“It all depends on how I interact with the rest of the players in the squad.
“I came to know Isou and they became like family.”
He was scouted by Isou while playing for Laumas in the Fuzzy Wuzzy Nines rugby league tournament in Port Moresby last year.
In 2015, the electrifying winger was outstanding.
Jerry’s efforts, determination and commitment saw him earn selection into the Prime Minister’s 13 side at five-eighth.
The same year, he won his second grand final with the Gurias when they beat Simbu Lions 26-18.
He was also part of the Gurias team who went on to sink Fiji champions Sabeto Roosters in the Melanesian Cup in Port Moresby.
“As an experienced player, Isou need someone like me to look up to,” Jerry said.
“I need to stand up and lead Isou, so they can see what I am doing and we can all do the same thing.
