Isou overcome Cutters to get second win

GULF Isou overcame a heated second half from Kimbe Cutters to register an 18-16 win, their second victory of the season during Saturday’s round-six Digicel Cup clash in Port Moresby.
Following a slow start, Isou managed an 8-6 lead at halftime against a new Cutters combination with skipper Jah Hogan stepping into the halfback role alongside No.6 Tony Ponda.
A fiery start to the second half saw Hogan sent to the sin bin for obstructing play. A scuffle from the next play also saw Isou halfback Roger Laka and Cutters second-rower Alex Rova sent to the bin.
Poor Isou defence saw a quick Cutters attack on the left edge to give the visitors the lead via a try from substitute Simon Johnson with only 11 players against Isou’s 12.
The 11-men Cutters side crossed over for another try through winger Elijah Rotinga for Kimbe to extend their lead by eight points (16-8).
Tempers flared again with Hogan sent to the bin for a second time along with Isou forward Steven Mark after another fight on field.
A more composed Isou side fought back inside the last 10 minutes with two tries by centre Makara Hura and fullback Gabby Taune for them to re-take the lead and seal the win.
