THE International Training Institute (ITI) yesterday presented the Port Moresby Cricket Association (POMCA) with new uniforms for the 10 teams participating in this year’s competition at the Bisini Cricket Ground.
The new uniforms will add colour and raise the level professionalism of cricket in Port Moresby, as it is the first time a sponsor has stepped in to provide uniforms for every team.
Outfits for umpires and match officials were also presented ahead of the June 8 start.
Association president Dean Ani thanked ITI for their support.
“We are grateful to receive these uniforms. This will provide relief for all the clubs,” he said.
“We want to look professional and I think that’s one of our goals, to go up a level and to be the best sporting in Port Moresby.”
ITI managing director and co-founder Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval said they company’s support towards cricket had started in 2011 and the level of assistance provided had grown since.
“POMCA has close to a thousand players,” he said.
“Having a thousand players is good because people are more occupied while playing sports.
“It keeps them out of trouble too. That’s one of the major reasons why wanted to sponsor Port Moresby cricket.
“At least we now have a professional outlook and it’s not only for us, it’s actually for the players.
“The players feel part of the competition when they actually have uniforms and I think this will go a long way in motivating them.”
Sentheyval said Port Moresby cricket had become bigger and he hoped the game would reach more parts of country to pave the way for a competition at the national level.
