Jamas make most of Scorpions’ injury to win first volleyball title

JAMAS won their first men’s premier National Capital District Volleyball Association title over the Edatec Scorpions 3-1 at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
The aggressive recruitment drive of top players in David George and Charlie Maino by the Jamas management during the off-season delivered the first title for team.
Starting with Sam Toua, Onne Koi Jr, Damien Aisi, Alex Solien, Heni Peter and setter Alpha Pala, the Scorpions won the first set through their aggressive attack and solid defence.
Jamas hit back through George and Maino — supported by Charlie Iru, Antonio Eri, Bruce Ila and playmaker Martin Ray —to win the second set.
The third set was closely contested until Pala sustained an injury while chasing a bad pass by Andy Sinari.
That was a turning point for the Jamas.
The Scorpions used Jr Koi as substitute setter, but he was unable to construct their offence like Pala, which saw Jamas utilise every opportunity to shift up another gear to storm home with the victory.
