JAPAN will conduct a three-day visit to Enga’s projects and hold two official handing-over ceremonies next month, its ambassador Nokuyuki Watanabe says.
“The handing over will be a steel bridge in Wapenamanda and a four-classroom school building for a primary school in Wabag.
“I also wish to visit classes to donate textbooks.
“Will also visit a local hospital for the donation of medical equipment,” he added.
Watanabe said he would seize the opportunity to also hear the experiences of locals and to meet with Governor Sir Peter Ipatas to discuss about future developments.
Watanabe said the Japanese assisted projects were in line with the policy of the Government, based on the requests as well as the respective communities nationwide.
“The projects will help address the present needs of people and contribute to fostering the friendship of the two nations,” he added.
Meanwhile, Watanabe and Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tketchenko recently signed a grant assistance for the Project for Economic and Social Development Programme for the provision of assembled iron bridges.
Japan will provide a grant assistance of 400 million yen (about K10 million), for provision of a maximum of eight bridges.
Watanabe said the Feb 8 to 10 visits would also provide an opportunity for the mainstream media to get a first-hand experience of Japan’s economic cooperation with the Government and Papua New Guineans.
A similar tour was carried on April 6, in Madang.
