PAPUA New Guinea Rugby Football Union (PNGRFU) sevens coach Warren Jennings will witness the inaugural Mendi sevens finals at the Momei Oval on Saturday.
Teams taking part in the finals are Reds, Harlequins, Nomads, Dragons, Gunners and Jets.
In attendance as special guests are PNGRFU general manager Simon Kerr and Mendi Rugby Football Union sponsor, Sape Molumi.
“All players are really looking forward to the challenge, not only for the prizes but for selection into the representative side for the upcoming national sevens circuit,” Mendi RFU president Robin Asok said.
Hot favourites to win the sevens are the KQL Reds, who have gone through the competition undefeated.
Under the guidance of player/coach Mikes Saghou plus the talented Tani brothers – Murphy and Stallon – they are in the driver’s seat to not only impress Jennings but to vie for selection in the Mendi representative team.
Other players sure to impress selectors include Kone Dus and Boas Minape (Harlequins), Michael Konnie, Rodney Luke and Robin Garry (Nomads), Maisel Kops, Elvis Kops and Junior Lukie (Reds), Aaron Kilo (Dragons) and Gilbert Langer and Peterson (Gunners).
