‘Jesus, best example of a leader’

WORD of fairness, just, kindness and willingness to help featured in Govenor-General Sir Michael Ogio’s message at the Elevala United Church in Port Moresby last Saturday.
Sir Michael was speaking during the first Church Leaders’ Summit of the United Church in PNG last Saturday.
He said the best example of good leadership came from Jesus Chris.
He told the leaders that it was important that they led by example and not by words alone.
He said a leader should be fair and just regardless of race, class, creed or gender and a leader should be firm and decisive, not waver under temptation and be able to accept responsibility and be accountable for his actions.
He said most notably, a true leader was one was “thankful and appreciated those he led and forgave unreservedly and willingly”.
Sir Michael said it was envisioned that through that summit, that church leaders would gain knowledge, skills and experience on good servanthood leadership styles to apply and improve in their respective roles in their circuits and congregations.
He said the challenges facing the church were ever increasing and as church leaders it was vital that they had the right tools to be able to identify them and work towards addressing them.
