JIMI, in Jiwaka, last week confirmed its procurement committee to approve contracts for service delivery, National Procurement Commission (NPC) chairman Kenneth Thompson says.
The Jimi procurement committee comprises district administrator Lawrence Itali, finance manager Joseph Kala, justice, law and order member Jeff Gadna Neng, community and women representatives Ben Jimmy and Nes Kamil.
They were sworn in by Magistrate Garry Unjo in Port Moresby on Thursday.
“The establishment of the procurement committee is to enable you to approve contracts worth up to K2.5 million to improve goods and service delivery in the district,” Thompson told the committee members.
He said previously, districts had a threshold limit of approving contracts of up to K500,000.
He said this hindered service delivery in the past, making it impractical for projects and other development to take place at the district level.
He said the establishment of procurement committees would make the system more efficient and get projects funded quicker.
He said the NPC had given district procurement committees the power to approve contracts worth up to K2.5 million while anything above that and up to K10m would be approved by the provincial procurement committee.
