Jiwaka and Chimbu unite to make roads better

THOUSANDS of people living on the border of Chimbu and Jiwaka will benefit from a road-upgrade project initiated by the two provincial governments.
This was discussed last week at the Waghi Valley golf course in Minj by Jiwaka Governor William Tongamp, Chimbu Governor Michael Dua and Kerowagi MP Bari Palma.
They agreed to upgrade existing roads from Druamugl to Sigmil via Kup Namar.
Palma said people living along the border would benefit.
Tongamp and Dua said people living at the border often missed out on government services because of a misunderstanding between the two provincial governments.
“A consolidated effort between the two governments is the way forward in building road development in the two provinces. That will see a surge in economic activities and other benefits as well,” Palma said.
An agreement between the two provincial governments was signed during the ground breaking ceremony at Druamugl in Chimbu yesterday.
After the completion of the Druamugl-Sigmil road upgrade, the focus will shift to the Dona-Kerowaghi road upgrading and sealing programme.
A market will also be built for the people of the two provinces.
It is understood the Asian
Development Bank will fund the project.
