Jiwaka students asked not to party after exams

STUDENTS in Jiwaka have been urged to refrain from partying at the end of their national examinations because they could end up in trouble.
Education Standards officer Thomas Kari reminded Grade Eight students sitting for the national examination this week not to get involved in celebrations and partying. “Every year after exams we see students booking clubs and lodges to dance and drink. This is unnecessary because you have not achieved anything big in life,” Kari said.
He told students in Grade Eight, 10 and 12 it “is just the beginning of a long journey”.
“You might destroy your life for just one night of excitement. I warn students to refrain from being involved in such activities. Go home and stay with your parents,” he said.
“There are much better activities and programmes organised by the churches and communities that you can join that would be beneficial to you.” Kari also warned the students that they were at a sexually active age group and were “high risk” of contracting HIV-AIDS.
He advised students to spend quality time with their parents by helping them to starting raising school fees for next year while they are awaiting their exam results.
