A GRADE 12 student who has just completed the national examination has died after he was attacked outside his home in Daru, Western, according to police.
Acting South Fly Police Commander Inspector Soiwa Ricker said six men had been arrested over the incident last Saturday. Ricker said the 22-year-old student from Balimo in Middle Fly had just completed his Grade 12 exam on Friday at Daru Secondary School and was relaxing at home.
“He was killed on Saturday night at about 10.30pm while listening to music on his boom box,” Ricker said.
He said it was hot inside the house and the student came out to get some fresh air.
“He was standing on the road listening to the music when two men in mask tried to pull his boom box from him,” Ricker said.
He was allegedly stabbed when he refused to let go of the boom box.
“The knife punctured a vital internal organ and caused his instant death,” Ricker said. “He was rushed to the Daru General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
“We have arrested six suspects who were allegedly involved in the killing.” On Sunday, Ricker said relatives of the student raided the Kaima Corner settlement and burnt down a home believed to belong to one of the six suspects.
