SENIOR journalists in Lae, Morobe, dedicated their imperial awards to their families and the country’s media fraternity.
Lae bureau chiefs Pisai Gumar of The National and Post Courier’s Franco Nebas dedicated their Queens Diamond Jubilee Commemorative medals to fellow journalists and media organisations in PNG.
They were presented medals along with EMTV’s Scott Waide and NBC’s Radio-Morobe director Carol Umbo by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae, on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II for services to community through media and journalism.
Veteran cameraman George Kekeng was awarded for services to public and prison fellowship.
Gumar thanked the Morobe government for acknowledging their work.
He thanked former journalists Ronald Bulum, Abby Yadi, Peter Korugl and the late Oseah Philemon.
“I would like to dedicate the award to all media colleagues in Lae,” Gumar said.
“I would also like to thank all mainstream print, broadcasting and digital media organisations for providing avenue for us to utilise our skills and abilities as journalists.”
Nebas said the media had played a vital role in the disseminating of information.
“No one has recognised media and hardworking journalists,” he said.
“We cross rivers, climb mountains and do everything just to get information.”
