JIWAKA Transitional Authority member Philip Kapal claims the authority is doing little to address the lack of infrastructure development in the new province.
He said most services were
lacking in the area and the authority had not done enough to address the issue.
Kapal said the authority was
spending money unnecessarily on activities that would not bring lasting benefits to the people of Jiwaka, while policing, health and education infrastructure in the province were deteriorating.
“We have done little to upgrade the education infrastructure in the province and I am seriously concerned about our children as they need better leaning facilities and as they are the future agents of change in the province.”
He said in a meeting in November last year the authority approved K300,000 for police in the province to buy guns and uniforms to prepare for the election.
The commitment was witnessed by acting Jiwaka provincial police
commander Billy Kombil but
the cheque was not written to the police.
“We must get these simple things
in order for us to fully gain our
provincial status but nothing has happened. Where are we now?” Kapal asked.
Addressing education and health infrastructure, he said, was the way to build Jiwaka and improve the lives of people.
The authority, led by chairman and North Waghi MP Benjamin Mul, is unproductive and does not have any vision to develop Jiwaka, Kapal said.
Mul could not be reached for comments.
