NORTHERN Governor Gary Juffa has called on the government to fast-track the proposed bill for the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC) so that there is a body in place to coordinate investigations.
Highlighting his disappointment with the delay in finalising a report into the SABL Commission of Inquiry in parliament yesterday, Juffa said there had been so many inquiries wasting people’s money and this was an example of an inquiry that has cost the government a lot of money and, after so many months, it was still incomplete.
He made these remarks during debate after Prime Minister Peter O’Neill presented an interim report into the SABL inquiry with the commission seeking a further extension of two months to complete the remaining 13 of the 16 terms of reference.
“I am a trained investigator and, having worked with IRC and Customs for 17 years, I can say that an investigation process is not costly.
“I would like the proposed bill for ICAC to be fast-tracked,” Juffa said.
