JUGU triumphed over Edatec Scorpions 3-2 in a thrilling encounter to conclude round six of the National Capital District Volleyball Association’s A grade division on Saturday.
The game at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre went down to the wire as both teams secured two sets each to play a deciding fifth set which saw Jugu edge Scorpions 15-12 to maintain top spot.
Scorpions rallied to take the first set 25-16 but Jugu came back in the next set taking an early 11-9 lead after the first timeout and maintained their lead through setter Ila Wally and hitters Emmanuel Asiu, Mauri Wally and Emmanuel Walo to claim the second set 25-18.
Scorpions regrouped well in the third set as setter Victor Pala controlled play with deft touches and accuracy to enable hitters Sylvester Kagena and Jason Nigari enough quality ball to bank a 25-19 win.
The seesawing fixture continued in the fourth frame with Scorpions on the receiving end when Jugu knuckled down to grind out a convincing 25-14 win to take the match to a deciding sets fifth and final set.
Jugu continued the momentum in the final set with coach Alex Gima’s charges holding their nerve to take the sting out of the Scorpions with a 15-12 win.
Coach Gima said he was pleased with the resilience his side showed in the final two sets.
“We’re both in the top four so it was a fair challenge and it was a rally match,” he said.
