NATIONAL Capital District Volleyball Association competition frontrunners Jugu continued their perfect start to the season with a 3-0 shutout of Rainbow Flyers in round four last weekend.
They sit atop the premier-division ladder with 12 points.
Competition rookies Flyers struggled to contain Jugu, who scored 25-18, 25-20 and 25-16 to seal the win at the Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre.
The game started well with some great rallies as both teams attempted to gain the upper hand.
It was 7-8 when Flyers stepped up and recorded some much-needed blocks against Jugu.
But despite a Flyers time-out, Jugu put their foot down with some great serves by Willie Sevese to win the opening set.
Boosted by representative players Taera Momo Jr, Ella Gleston and John Soi, Jugu came out strongly in the second set to keep Flyers at bay.
Jugu hitters Eka Solomon, Taera and Gleston combined well with Freddie Inai, Ogi Lelesi and Sevese to dominate up front and claim the second set.
Taera and Soi continue to be Jugu’s key attackers under coach Alex Gima.
Despite Rainbow’s efforts, Gima’s charges dominated the third set to seal the victory.
