JUSTICE  David  Cannings’ initiative to investigate police brutality gives  the people of this country a lot of hope.
Finally, the issue of brutality, violence and violation of human rights by the police are being noticed.
We  need  more  people like him  in the justice department like you.
The fact that he has summoned Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga, senior police officer Andy Bawa and public solicitor Frazier Pitpit to explain what  steps they  had taken to deal with the alleged police brutality case is some justice done already.
The case relates to the alleged assault of  74  men  at 7-Mile in NCD in May last year.
It  was  reported that most of the men had  Achilles tendons severed.
It  is  a  victory for justice that Justice Cannings refused to close the inquiry as he was not satisfied with the response of the police and the police solicitor.  He  wanted them back in court for further explanation as to what action had been taken against those guilty.
The police, or whoever they are, cannot and should not get away with such violation.
Justice Cannings found that the steps police took to respond to the allegations as woefully inadequate and  the  public   solicitor’s  response as “barely adequate, too slow and reactive”.
Good  on you, Justice Cannings.
