A MAGISTRATE has ordered a man charged with murder eight years ago in Central to provide his bail documents to justify that he was out on bail.
Committal Court Magistrate Hilda David Aipi ordered Inene Siala to advise his lawyer to present a copy of the bail documents for the court’s record.
“Ask your lawyer to tender a copy of your bail receipt to the court registry before the returnable date,” she told Siala. Police prosecutor Sgt Malot Asi informed the court that Siala was appearing on National Court bail.
“But the prosecution has no bail certificate to justify that he was out on bail.”
Magistrate Aipi asked Siala if he had a copy of the bail receipt and certificate to tender to the court and Siala said his bail documents were with his lawyer, who was in Kimbe for work.
“My lawyer has all the bail documents and we shall present them in court when we return to court,” he said.
The case was adjourned to May 25 to check the documents.
It was alleged that on Dec 2, 2014, between 5pm and 6pm, Inene and his brother Nene Siala were at Yumi Yet Bridge at Kairuku in Central when they saw Vaulia Ume on a PMV and followed him. As the PMV was dropping off passengers at Hisiu, Inene and Nene followed Ume and once he had got off the PMV Inene allegedly attacked Ume with a bush knife.
Ume was seriously wounded and was bleeding heavy from the attack.
He was then rushed off to the Port Moresby General Hospital for treatment but died on Jan 7, 2015.
