TWO suspects involved in the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Manus recently were arrested by police in Lorengau over the weekend.
Manus police commander Chief Insp David Yapu said the two suspects were juveniles and were expected to appear before the Children’s Court this week.
Yapu said the two suspects, aged 14 and 15, were both from Kari village in Lorengau.
He said, in another incident, a suspect had been arrested and charged for assault causing grievous bodily harm to a man, a Paul Payor.
According to Yapu, the incident occurred on Koronat Island outside Lorengau town at 9pm on July 20.
Yapu said the suspect used a small knife to stab the victim in his face causing a serious wound.
Police identified the suspect as Julius Minei, 24, from Koronat. He appeared before the Lorengau District Court last Wednesday and was remanded at the Lorengau jail.
Yapu said another suspect believed to be involved in the attack was still at large.
“I am making an appeal to this suspect to surrender to police quickly because your identity is known to the police and we will catch up on you soon,” he said.
Yapu called on parents and relatives of the suspect to facilitate his apprehension or the police would use whatever means necessary to capture him.
