A 35-YEAR-OLD woman was fined K1,000 and jailed 10 months by a district court in Lae for two counts of assault.
Magistrate Pious Tapil ordered Doreen Simon, from Wosera-Gawi’s Gegerobi village in East Sepik to serve her sentence cumulatively in Buimo Prison.
He ordered Doreen to pay a fine of K500 for each count of assault and K1,000 compensation within a month to the victim.
Doreen told the court that she had acted because the victim was having an affair with her husband.
“You have all the right to take the victim to court, but you did not.
“The law is there to protect women but you women have become the forefront of committing assaults,” Tapil said.
The offences were committed when the victim was on her way to Asia Missionary Training College on April 5 and June 4 in Kamkumung in Lae.
On April 5, the victim was with her elder sister walking towards Salu Trading when Doreen stabbed her on the back and left eyebrow.
The court noted that the victim on June 4, was confronted and hit her with an umbrella.
