A MAGISTRATE has given police more time to complete investigation into the case of a man accused of stabbing another man to death in Port Moresby in April.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Paul Puri Nii on Wednesday allowed police time to gather sufficient evidence and adjourned the matter to July 13.
Police allege that on April 6, Willie John, 19, from Awara village in Baimuru, Gulf allegedly stabbed Awa Koivi at Epeia Point in Kaugere settlement in Port Moresby.
Police allege that between 11pm and 11.30pm, John was drunk and swearing to nearby houses.
Koivi was with his wife near their home and told John to stop swearing as it was disrespectful.
John did not stop and continued swearing.
Koivi approached him and tried to stop him but John took out a knife and stabbed him in the side.
John then removed the knife and fled while Koivi, who had collapsed, was then rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital.
He died the next day.
The matter was reported to police and John was arrested and charged with one count of willful murder.
