KAINANTU MP Johnson Tuke announced that K1,000 will be up for grabs for students who become dux of Grade 8 in primary schools in the district, starting next year.

Tuke made this announcement while presenting K500 to Hamori Primary School’s Grade 8 dux, Steven Waus at the graduation last Tuesday.

“I didn’t think of offering this much cash and making this announcement today, but I was moved by witnessing Steven Waus, a young father of one, coming forward with his child and wife to receive his dux award.”

He said that by offering something to this kind of person, it would motivate others like him to pursue education and become a good person despite them being married and were with children, because education stopped when we die.

Waus received an additional K200 from a local firm specialising in the construction of desks.

Tuke said the K1,000 Grade 8 dux award incentive was a first by a Kainantu MP.

He said for too long their children had been neglected and they needed motivation and by offering such, it would motivate every child to work hard and be competitive in their academic performance.
