PAPUA New Guinea students studying in Cebu, Philippines, spent last month in the great outdoors of the country before the start of the semester.

They experienced group trailing, zip-line, obstacle courses, horseback riding, rappelling, waterfalls exploring and learned more about their capabilities.

During the outdoor camp initiated by Paradise International Education Consultancy (PIEC) at Danasan Eco Adventure Park Cebu, the students went on hikes and trails to promote active learning through direct personal experiences.

It was designed to help impact upon the students’ intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and moral development through excitement and adventure within a framework of safety.

“It was a really beautiful experience to explore the beauty of the Philippines through the outdoor activities,” Shalanta Boli, a student enrolled in the bachelor of nursing course in the University of San Carlos, said.

“Aside from that, I was able to discover my inner adventurer and involve myself in the wide range of experiences and adventurous activities with an environmental focus. This has been, so far, my best experience here in Cebu.

The activity was framed to develop the students’ skills-focused learning, problem solving, team building and self-reliant journeys and activities, with residential experience and especially-valued feature.

PNG participants in the camp included students who arrived in September for the November semester.

The outdoor camp ended with teaching the students the importance of positive attitude towards learning and self-esteem for holistic development.
