K10,000 marijuana bust

AN estimated K10,000 worth of marijuana was confiscated yesterday outside Port Moresby indicating that there is enormous use of the drug in the capital, police say.
Joe Godua, from the drug unit, said a man with 3.5kg of dried marijuana neatly compacted and packed in two plastic bags was arrested after a tip-off.
A roadblock was set up at Sabusa in Central following the tip-off and the man was arrested.
Godua said the suspect, from Tapini in Goilala, Cenral, cooperated with police and admitted that the drugs belonged to him.
This was after police at the road block questioned more
than 10 other people inside a vehicle belonging to Works Department.
“The drugs were packed among vegetables, kaukau and peanuts,” Godua said.
He said much of the law-and-order problems in the city were caused by people who smoked marijuana.
The suspect will appear for mention in court today.
