K15,000 boost for festival

NEW Britain Palm Oil Ltd (NBPOL) presented a cheque of K15,000 towards supporting the Tufi Tapa and Tattoo Cultural Festival last weekend.
Ijivitari MP and vice-minister for Agriculture and Livestock Richard Masere said despite the challenges being presented by the Covid-19 pandemic on the tourism industry, the festival would proceed following the recent uplifting of certain restrictions.
He said the main focus of the festival was to promote the district’s unique cultural traditions from the Tufi area which was renowned for its tapa cloth making and designs and face tattooing.
“Culture is an important part of our identity,” Masere said.
“Our main focus is to promote our unique culture from the Tufi.”
Masere said it was important to have the Government and business support and thanked NBPOL for partnering with the provincial and district authorities in support of the festival.
