MOROBE’S Labuta local level government received, last Friday, K163,000 funding from the Morobe government to have a police station built near Situm Primary School.
Situm Primary School and Situm health centre also received K10,000 each.
“This will be the first time that this LLG will have a police station of its own,” said ward 13 councillor Nahman Joe.
“The facility will be built at the right place as we have the Situm health centre and primary school in one location.” The funding was made possible under the provincial support improvement programme (PSIP) funding by the Morobe government.
Joe said over the years, law and order had been a growing a concern for people living in the LLG and the presence of police personnel would ensure policing in the area.
“In the past, law and order problems experienced in the LLG were not been fully addressed by police,” he said.
“Now as soon as this police station is completed, we should not have any issues with that anymore.”
Meanwhile, Situm Primary School head teacher Zaroma Serum, when thanking Morobe government said the school was also planning to build a new teachers house.
“This funding will go towards building that new teacher’s house as well as other projects that the school has in its plan,” he said.
