ENGA will see the completion of a K200 million hydro project in 2022 that is expected to provide a more constant power supply to the province, chairman of the Enga Hydro Power Ltd (EHPL) Alan Guo says.
He gave the assurance following the signing of the Pilikambi hydro power project agreement between EHPL and Powerchina (PNG) Ltd in Wabag on Wednesday.
EHPL is the developer of the project that would be built along the Laigap river in Laiagam, Enga.
Powerchina, the company that would build the hydro station has constructed 70 per cent of hydro projects in China and 50 per cent around the world, it said.
Guo said, Enga is currently using 2.3 megawatts from PNG Power.
The hydro project will produce 18 megawatts of power that can supply electricity to neighbouring Western Highlands and Southern Highlands provinces.
Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas said it was a high-impact infrastructure project initiated by the Enga government.
He said the project would have tremendous impact on the socio- economic development in the province.
Sir Peter said it would help develop micro enterprises, small-medium businesses and enhance the delivery of other social services such as education and health.
Sir Peter said the project was owned by the Enga Energy Investment Ltd, a business arm of the Enga government and AG Energy Ltd. Powerchina (PNG) Ltd managing director He Tingfu said the company had vast experience in building such projects around the world.
He said the Enga task would fall along the category of quality hydros. “Today marks the kick-start of the Pilikambi project and Powerchina is on the ground now in Enga to meet the two years deadline of the project,” He said.
He said Powerchina will work in partnership with EHPL to complete the project.
He said ground works and machineries will be moved to Enga in October and November this year to for work to commence.
