THE Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee says it has raised K240,000 from the Lae and Port Moresby legs of this year’s Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge.
Both legs, of which The National is a major sponsor, were held at the Lae Golf Club and Royal Port Moresby Golf Club this month.
The funds will go towards helping Team PNG compete in the June 17-25 Pacific Mini Games and the July 28-Aug 8 Commonwealth Games.
Committee president Sir John Dawanicura thanked the business houses that fielded teams in Lae and Port Moresby.
A total of 26 organisations competed in the Lae leg which was held on April 8 while the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club attracted 46 business houses, with three complimentary teams, on April 25.
Sir John said the committee was grateful for the support from the business community despite the country’s Coronavirus challenges.
“Thank you to all the corporate organisations, business houses, government entities and golf clubs that took part in this year’s Prime Minister’s Golf Challenge which saw us raise more than K200,000 for Team PNG,” he said.
Sir John acknowledged major sponsor The National, hole-in-one sponsor Ela Motors PNG, and support sponsors Air Niugini, Coral Sea Hotels, Brian Bell Group, South Pacific Brewery, Coca-Cola Euro Pacific Partners, Theodist, Trukai Industries Limited, Trophy Haus PNG, Media Partners PNG and Blue7 Team.
He thanked both golf clubs as hosts and Prime Minister James Marape for his patronage of the event.
