TRUKAI Industries Limited yesterday presented a cheque for K344,000 to the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee (PNGOC) to support Team PNG to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Chief executive Alan Preston said the company was grateful for its long-standing partnership with the committee and pledged Trukai’s continued support to Team PNG.
“One of the joys of being able to present this amount of money is that we know it’s being used for the best of reasons to nurture and support the committee and athletes,” he said.
“I’m sure this funding and money from other key sponsors will be put to good use.
“Thank you for our continued partnership, enjoy the Games and best of luck to Team PNG.”
The funds were raised from the sale of Trukai Fun Run t-shirts over the past six months.
Committee president Sir John Dawanincura thanked Trukai for its continued support over the past 23 years.
“On behalf of the board, officials and athletes, I’d like to thank you for your continued support since the year 2000,’’ he told Trukai.
“It continues to be a successful and mutual partnership.
“Despite the tough economic times, we salute your passion and support for the athletes through the four-year cycle of events.”
Team PNG will field 56 athletes who will compete in athletics, boxing, squash, swimming, table tennis and weightlifting. The team will leave next Thursday for the Games.
