K500 medical report questioned

A MAGISTRATE has questioned police why the Port Moresby General Hospital is charging K500 for a medical report since it is a public hospital.
Waigani committal court Magistrate Paul Puri Nii was yesterday responding to police rosecutor Sergeant Chris Iga when Iga said police were still waiting for medical report of a senior constable’s son who was allegedly beaten up by four policemen in February.
Iga said according to arresting officer Daniel Hambina, all other evidence was set except for the medical report.
The hospital was charging the complainant, a senior police constable and victim’s father, K500 which had caused the delay.
Magistrate Nii gave police two weeks to work on their file and adjourned the case to June 23.
Police alleged that on Feb 27, between 6.30am and 7am, four policemen – Emmanuel Somon, 30, Philemon Parom, 28, Ade Kawa, 29, and Frank Apa, 30, were seen at the roundabout between the Games Village Police Barracks, Tokarara and Waigani Driveway.
Samuel Naraboi, 21, and William Michael, 21, were walking down towards the Waigani Bus Stop from Tokarara. They were allegedly beaten by the policemen.
