K518,000 in entitlements due

MEMBERS of the Oro assembly and provincial executive council (PEC) will receive their final entitlements totalling K518,000 before July 27.
Northern Governor Gary Juffa said the provincial government in consultation with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) would ensure the assembly members were paid before their exit. Juffa instructed acting provincial administrator Trevor Magei and the human resource division to work with the SRC secretariat at the National Parliament to have the entitlements paid before the return of writs at the end of the month.
He said a total of K518,000 would be paid to members who served from 2012 to 2019.
The calculations for the payments were based on the SRC determination of 2015.
Juffa said members of the assembly and PEC deserved to be paid their final entitlements for their services to the people of Oro through their respective local level governments and the positions they held.
“Past provincial governments did not honour their commitment to pay the final entitlements or even if they did pay the members things were not done correctly,” Juffa said.
“Under my leadership, the Oro government will go back term by term to ensure we pay out our former members properly and accordingly and we will ensure this is done based on proper records.”
Juffa also thanked members of the SRC secretariat at the Parliament in ensuring the calculations were done on time.
Meanwhile a spokesperson for the SRC secretariat has commended Juffa and his administration in their approach towards ensuring assembly members were paid their entitlements.
