SOME 800 students from Haella Primary School in West New Britain will now benefit from a double classroom building funded by the Japanese government for K232,000.
School board chairman Frank Kapudia said the new classrooms were needed to cater for an influx of the children of New Britain Palm Oil plantations employees.
“This school was established in 1996 and caters for classes from kindergarten to grade eight and these children come from the Garu, Aleavu, Sapuri, Numundo planation, Haella plantation and Wara Ston plantation estates,” he said.
Kapudia said the school had seen an increase in the number of student enrolled and was faced with a shortage of classrooms to accommodate them.
“We are grateful to the Japanese government for their assistance to build new classrooms and renovate existing ones through the Grant Assistance for Grassroot Human Security projects.”
