THE East New Britain government hopes to boost economic growth with K70 million from its budget geared toward small to medium enterprises.
Governor Nakikus Konga said this while handing down the 2020 provincial budget late last year.
Konga said the funding would see a major boost for cocoa and coconut downstream processing including the development of a fish storage facility.
He said a significant emphasis would also be placed on fresh food production to sustain food security and protect against adverse weather.
He said food production and security was an area that included looking at adaptive and mitigating measures to improve basic capabilities such as increasing agriculture production, protecting water sources, and having nature reserves to ensure native plant and animal species, were protected including coral areas for fish stock.
Konga said the Government was also aware of the need to manage population growth and mitigate its effects on services.
