THE Kairuku Boxing Association (KABA) will hold its annual general meeting Dec 21.
According to president Andrew Magaiva, the elections will take place during this time in conjunction with the Governor Alphonse Moroi Cup in Inauabui village near Bereina.
The KABA executive holds office for a one-year term, from Jan 1 to Dec 31, with the last elections in Dec 8.
Magaiva said, in keeping with its constitution, KABA would give clubs within the association the opportunity to elect new officials for next year.
The PNG Amateur Boxing Union (PNGABU) affiliated association has staged four tournaments this year and is looking to finish off the year tying up all its responsibilities.
“We have had one major tournament this year which was the Paru Aihi Cup on May 8,” Magaiva said.
“Since then we have had three other tournaments with the most recent one being an association competition held last month,” he said.
Boxing competitions in the Kairuku district this year have been sponsored in part by local MP Paru Aihi and Central Governor Alphonse Moroi hence the naming of the silverware after the two MPs.
Other businesses which assisted KABA in running competitions this year were Brian Bell, NC Civil Works and Benson Plumbing.
Magaiva confirmed he would be seeking re-election at the AGM next month but could not say if KABA’s other executive would stand as well.
He added there was exciting times ahead for the association with the national boxing championships (early 2011), PNG Games, Arafura Games and, ultimately the Pacific Games to aim for in which Kairuku boxers could expect to figure prominently.
“We are looking forward to sending a KABA team as part of Team Central to the Arafura Games in Darwin next year as well as the national championships which are hopefully around April,” Magaiva said.
