EXECUTIVES of the Kabwum Welfare Association (KWA) in Lae have brushed aside allegations they have misused association funds and abused their positions.
KWA vice-president Fred Liwa and treasurer Silas Porongi said this in a joint statement yesterday.
He said the allegations were made by some Kabwum community members, one of whom went by the pen name of “Mangi Selepet” in the print media.
Porongi said the association was established last year to look after the welfare of the Kabwum people.
He said the allegation the executives were misusing association funds totalling K140,000 was wrong.
Porongi said K10,000 seed capital had been used to establish an office on Montoro Street, in Lae, and K30,000 given by Morobe Governor Luther Wenge, was now being used  – as in stocking the office with necessities like computers, photocopier, telephones, fax, furniture and stationeries.
Monies promised by politicians have yet to be given.
