A REMOTE district in Morobe is building a third level hospital for its people.
The Kabwum development authority (DDA) chairman and MP Patrick Basa signed an agreement with the contractor for the K5 million project in Lae yesterday.
The project is one of Basa’s main initiatives since coming into office.
The other is the Kabwum Secondary School.
The district hospital project was launched in March, 2019, with the government of Peter O’Neill committing K5 million.
Basa said the money was with the development authority and with the signing of the contract, work would soon start at the site at Kabwum Station.
The signing was done between the contractor Perfect Floors Ltd, Kabwum DDA and the provincial administration through administrator Bart Ipambonj.
“Under the district budget, we have allocated K3 million out of that K5 million to get the work on the hospital going while the other K2 million will be used later for the same project,” Basa said.
He said the DDA had identified which building infrastructure would be built first after demolishing old building infrastructure at Kabwum station.
Basa said the district was building six self-contained Covid-19 isolation centres.
The DDA had allocated K300,000 for the response.
He challenged the contractor to start the project and complete it on time.
Basa also encouraged supporters and critics alike to work with the development authority to develop the district for everyone’s benefit.
