A SECOND payment for the Hobu to Simanzing road in the Nabak local level government of Nawaeb, Morobe, was made in Lae yesterday to the Works Department by the district development authority (DDA).
DDA chairman and MP Kennedy Wenge presented a cheque for K300,000 to provincial Works manager Samson Apai for the completion of work on the road.
Wenge gave K500,000 last year to the provincial works department with 8km so far been completed.
Wenge, who is the chairman of the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority, said the Hobu-Simanzing road was crucial to opening up the LLG to development including a number of sites that tourists could visit.
“The main idea behind giving this road a priority is to serve the many villages and also at Samazing there are tourist sites that need to be exposed,” Wenge said.
Wenge said roads in other parts of the district would be fixed or upgraded once funds were available.
Nawaeb DDA chief executive officer James Niapukali said many villages in the district were still cut off from services and building and upgrading roads would benefit the people.
Nawaeb has three main roads: Erap junction to Boana station road, Poahom-Pambok road and Poahom-Bukawa road. Apai said the second payment would cater for another 5km of the Hobu-Samazing road.
Wenge said he was confident the provincial works department would complete the road project on time and on budget and would provide the people with road access.
