AIR Niugini’s Paradise Lounge at the new Kagamuga international airport in Mount Hagen won the best “Commercial interior design award” in the 2016 Akzo Nobel Taubman’s Design Excellence Award held in Port Moresby last week.
The bi-annual event is organised by the PNG Institute of Architects to recognise the work of architects and award them in eight categories.
The lounge project was submitted by Tropical Projects Limited, a aational architecture company responsible for building designs and project management.
Tropical Projects Limited’s managing director David Gole said it was not the first time they had worked with Air Niugini on the lounge project.
“We thank Air Niugini for having faith in us by allowing us to successfully implement and complete the lounge project to the airline’s expectation.”
Air Niugini chief executive officer Simon Foo congratulated Tropical Projects for a job well done. “Air Niugini is confident of the quality and the outcome of the work so far and this award further cements that partnership with Tropical Projects in the future,” Foo said.
Foo said Mt Hagen was important to Air Niugini and the airline looked forward to working with agencies to introduce a 24-hour operation for its B737 aircraft. Air Niugini’s paradise lounge at Kagamuga airport overlooks the airstrip where arrivals and departures are easily seen.
