THE Kainantu district administration building, in Eastern Highlands, was burnt early yesterday.
An eyewitness and a long-time resident of Kainantu, Paul Kinda, said the building caught fire early on Sunday.Eastern Highlands provincial police commander Superintendent John Kale yesterday confirmed the burning of the building, one of the iconic buildings in Kainantu town.
Kale said the cause of the fire was not known as police were still investigating.
“Anyone found to be responsible for the cause of the fire will be dealt with accordingly, but I strongly appeal to anyone with information to assist
the police,” he said.The building housed the offices of the district administrator, district treasury and other district affairs divisions.Newly-elected MP for Kainantu Johnson Tuke condemned the burning of the and vowed to institute an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
He said those responsible would face the full force of the law.
