FORMER assistant police commissioner, human resources, Sylvester Kalaut says he will sue Police Minister Bryan Kramer and The National for publishing allegations of corruption at the police headquarters.
In a letter dated Sept 28, Kalaut said he and human resource director Bob Kerry would sue the newspaper for publishing Kramer’s comments about police officers stealing retired police officers’ pension funds as part of allegations by senior officers at the police headquarters in Konedobu, Port Moresby.
“It is public knowledge that Kerry and I are now before the Waigani National Court for committal proceedings with charges of misappropriation, abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud of pensions funds at the headquarters,” Kalaut said.
“And such media reports by Kramer published by The National has become prejudicial or prejudiced.
“On this note, we both would like to invite The National to attend the next court siting on Oct 15 for the decision on sufficiency of evidence relating to our case.”
Kalaut said that they respected Kramer as a state minister.
“However, for him to make such comments, making reference to the theft of police pension funds of this case that is before the court, is prejudicial and unbecoming of a national leader of his calibre.”

  • Its very good that the state minister did exposed this on the paper for the majority tax payers to know.
This is the beginning and its a precedent set by the leader to expose such corrupt practices by such officers and leaders. Other leaders can do the same to help weed out the corrupt practices.

  • Note that Kalaut did not claim he was innocent, just that there was insufficient evidence to prove him guilty. Hopefully, a few 100 kina notes distributed to the right people will ensure that the evidence never comes before the courts. The last thing we need is a clamp down on corruption. It would destroy the entire fabric of the country.

  • Klaut can sue Kramer, if his hands are absolutely clean.
If not, what is hidden now will come out later because nothing is hidden from God.
