UNIVERSITY student Leilani Jobeth Konjib has won the 2021 Miss Sanctuary Rapopo Hotel Resort beating 20 other contestants.
Konjib, 24, from Morobe and a diploma in law (prosecution) student at the University of PNG, will represent her sponsor for the rest of this year and next year when the new Miss PNG would be sought.
Konjib said she entered the pageantry to help build her confidence and allow herself to grow and discover herself.
“To be honest, the thought of entering this pageant always frightened me,” she said.
“I have always been a tomboy despite trying to rub that off through modelling but I hadn’t thought about it seriously until I came by this memory (Bible) verse 1 Timothy 4:12.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, conduct, in love, faith and purity.”
Konjib is passionate about leadership and helping people.
“Growing up, I see a leader as someone who can be respected, is confident, charismatic, one who helps many people and is loved by all,” she said.
“I want to be like that.
“Gender inequality was a barrier when it comes to being a leader, especially when you are a female.”
Konjib said her experiences taught her to be resilient, be confident in herself and be able to trust others through delegation of tasks.
“Helping people through leadership is what gives me the drive and wakes me up every morning,” she said.
